Limit Meaningless Chatter

Then Job spoke again: “You people really know everything, don’t you? . . . Well, I know a few things myself.” Job 12:1-3

Every now and then, the media runs a story about a public figure who puts aside his or her facade and responds to someone who has been haranguing him or her. It’s often a politician, and the dialogue tends to be rather crude, but the lesson is valuable.

Job’s friends were downright annoying. None of their ideas were helpful. Heeding their advice would have caused Job to sin, and he knew it. There was nothing to be gained by listening to them any longer.

Job did what more leaders should do: He told them to sit down and be quiet.

There are only so many minutes in a day; filling them with twaddle wastes precious time.

Listening to different opinions is valuable. Paying attention to new ideas keeps you on your toes. Make sure that you have enough time for what is important by limiting the amount of garbage you will listen to.
