Let Outsiders Spread the Word
Some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews . . . ?” King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this. Matthew 2:1-3
My client’s potential customers thought they were familiar with his product, but it was clear from their comments that they didn’t know much about it.
When people think they have all the facts, they turn a deaf ear to anything new you have to say.
This is called the Paradox of Familiarity.
To reach around this dilemma, find individuals who are not familiar with your story, get them excited about it, and let them deliver the new information to your audience.
King Herod and the Jewish leaders thought they had God all figured out. They weren’t open to new information and didn’t even notice the commotion in Bethlehem. God used outsiders to give the religious leaders a wake-up call.
If you’re having trouble getting through to people who think they have it all figured out, perhaps you should start telling your story to someone else.
