Inform Your Hunches

Inform Your Hunches

So all the men in the town council agreed . . . and every male in the town was circumcised. But three days later, when their wounds were still sore, two of Jacob’s sons . . . took their swords and . . . slaughtered every male. Genesis 34:24-26

Talk about letting your passion get the best of you!

Passion is a good thing, and we need more passionate leaders, but every urge must be balanced with a dispassionate dose of due diligence.

Making key decisions based on passion without scrutiny is like running a marathon on nothing but Snickers and Kool-Aid. Empty calories will only sustain you for so long before you crash.

When passion appears to be running ahead of scrutiny, ask,

What’s the business reason for doing this?

The answer may be, “My experience tells me this hunch is going to pay off, so I’d like to proceed.”

Or it could be, “You’re right. Let’s do a bit more research to see if my hunch is correct.”
