Groom A Number Two

Groom a Number Two

God said to Noah, “I have decided . . .” Genesis 6:13

I have enjoyed observing a handful of people that I refer to as “Number Two” individuals. A Number Two stands in the shadow of a person in the spotlight and makes them look good.

It’s not an easy job, but when done properly, it is beautiful to watch. There is a good example of this in the movie The American President, starring Michael Douglas as the president and Martin Sheen as his longtime chief of staff.

In the movie, the two men are best friends. They have worked together since college, yet out of respect for his office, Sheen’s character never calls his friend by his first name.

As the Number Two, Sheen’s character understands his mission completely and knows that he is playing a vital role. As human beings, they are equals, but in practicality, one of them is the president.

When God needed someone he could trust to carry out a special mission, he found a strong Number Two in Noah. Who can you groom to be your Number Two?
