Get Some Rest
Get Some Rest
On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. Genesis 2:2
Li’l Abner, Dagwood Bumstead, and Beetle Bailey are three of my favorite comic strip characters, because these guys really know how to take a nap. In fact, Li’l Abner—Al Capp’s loveable hillbilly—was so good at napping that he earned his living as a professional mattress tester.
Getting enough rest is actually no laughing matter. God was so serious about setting aside time for rest that he “blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested” (Genesis 2:3).
If you are a typical leader, you don’t allow yourself enough downtime.
You probably feel that you have a very good reason for pushing beyond your limits. Many overworked leaders believe this is good stewardship of the time God has given them.
Whatever the reason, it doesn’t hold water with God, who took the time to provide specific instructions in this regard.
Follow God’s example by building some holy rest into your schedule.
