Expect Something New

But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. Isaiah 43:18-19

History defines who we are, and past experience is a good predictor of future results. To understand what will happen tomorrow, study what happened yesterday.

The Israelites put great stock in their past. Hebrew kids could recite oral histories all the way back to Adam.

Their fixation on history became a problem, however.

They took their eyes off the future. They didn’t look beyond the horizon because they liked where they had been and where they were. They wanted the future to be just like the past.

As the book of Isaiah unfolds, God promises a victory. The Israelites thought it would be a military or political victory because of how God had led them before.

God said, “Forget all that.” His future would involve something new.

Perhaps your organization has focused too much on its history. What worked before may not work tomorrow. Is it time to “forget all that” and do something new?
