Don’t Think Like Everyone Else

Don’t Think Like Everyone Else

The LORD has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. Isaiah 8:11

Isaiah’s assignment had nothing to do with getting the Israelites to sit around a campfire singing “Kumbaya.” God hadn’t asked him to be a team player. His job was to confront people with the reality of their situation and urge them to change.

In many ways, Isaiah was like a modern-day consultant who is hired to help an organization look at their circumstances from a different perspective. God was crystal clear on the approach that Isaiah should take:

Do not think like everyone else.

Doing so would waste time and perpetuate the problem. If people really wanted to change, they would have to listen to new ideas. Thinking the same thoughts was getting them nowhere.

When you go outside for new ideas, be careful not to feed the advisor too much of “this is how we do things around here.”

Let the consultant observe and recommend from his or her unique perspective. Otherwise, you will waste your time and theirs.
