Don’t Create Double Trouble

No one can serve two masters. . . . You will be devoted to one and despise the other. Matthew 6:24

It always sounds like such a smart way to stretch payroll dollars.

Bill and Janice both have executive assistants. Bill’s assistant retires, and rather than hire a replacement, they decide to share Janice’s assistant, Shirley.

Bill and Janice have different management styles. She’s an early riser who hands out assignments in advance of their due date. He stays late every night and works on very tight deadlines.

Shirley is being asked to serve two masters.

Jesus couldn’t have been any clearer—you can’t do that! Yet Bill and Janice have put Shirley in the impossible position of having to do so.

You may have good intentions, but the shared positions you create require those employees to make difficult decisions they shouldn’t have to make.

Arrange the situation so that the shared employee only reports to one person. One solution may be an office manager who coordinates assignments from multiple bosses.
