Count The Cost

Count the Cost

Don’t begin until you count the cost. Luke 14:28

Let me turn the tables and first share what I believe this passage is not saying. I don’t believe Jesus is encouraging his followers to move forward only if they are certain of the future. That would be inconsistent with his message of faith.

On the contrary, I think Jesus is telling us to consider the cost of anything we undertake so we can begin with complete understanding of the price we will pay.

It is in the nature of leadership to move into unknown territory. Doing so requires a certain amount of faith, because no one can accurately predict the future.

Effective leaders are willing to take reasonable risks based on informed decisions after weighing potential benefits against their best estimates of what it will take to succeed.

Don’t move too fast, and don’t wait too long.

When the time is right, pour on the steam, and know that you’ve made the best decision.
