Communicate Your Intentions

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image.” Genesis 1:26

My wife and I enjoy second-row seats for our local symphony orchestra’s six-concert series. Sitting this close to the front, we can hear the conductor speak to the players between selections. We can also see his facial expressions during the performance—it’s quite clear that he uses more than just his hands to communicate with the fifty-some musicians before him.

We’ve noticed a particular connection between the maestro and his concertmistress, the first-chair violinist. They exchange brief comments at the beginning of the evening and often make eye contact during a performance.

The conductor is clearly the person in charge, but he could never complete his task without communicating his plans to those around him.

“Let us make human beings . . .” (emphasis added).

As the leader, you are in charge and the decision is yours to make, but—just as God did—it is vitally important that you keep your key people in the loop.
