Be Faithful In Small Things

If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. Luke 16:10

The temperature in a kiln reaches nearly two thousand degrees as green clay is transformed into a durable piece of pottery. Increasing the temperature too fast can cause dunting, which leaves tiny cracks that remain unnoticed until the piece falls apart under normal use.

Young leaders are sometimes forced into situations that dunt their spirits. As they take on more than they can handle, too many of them burn out and have a difficult time recovering. Their young families suffer, the organization suffers, and seeds of self-doubt are planted where they probably should not be.

Jesus provides two lessons in this passage. Most obvious is the imperative that one’s ability must be proven before more responsibility is given.

Less obvious but nonetheless critical is the duty placed on experienced leaders to protect their progeny from too steep a trajectory. Don’t set them up for failure by turning the heat up too fast.
