National Football League owners gather annually to consider new rules for the league. Most of the changes are minor, but sometimes they initiate sweeping changes, such as the Instant Replay Challenge introduced in 1999.
The goal of the game never changes—but coaches and players adjust to the new rules.
As an observant Jew, Peter played by the rules. He argued when God invited him, in a dream, to eat forbidden food, but the rules had changed, so Peter changed his behavior.
The rules of your game are constantly changing.
Formal letters are now quickie e-mails. Employees move from job to job more often than they used to. Customers make outrageous demands and seem to run the show.
Your success as a leader depends on your ability to adjust to new conditions. Your goal doesn’t change, but your game plan must.
