Tap Into Your Power Source - Jesus
Tap into Your Power Source - Jesus
Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.
Mark 1:35
Suspense movies have the dramatic formula all figured out: The story’s villain chases the hero or heroine, who breathlessly jumps into a car and turns the key . . . only to discover a dead battery or a gas gauge on empty.
The car that won’t start, at the worst possible time, is one of many worn-out movie clichés, but it illustrates our common need for power and energy.
This also applies to the spiritual realm.
The Son of God came to earth as a man, so Jesus understood better than anyone else the importance of tapping into the heavenly Power Source by spending unhurried time with his Father. Despite full days of teaching, preaching, doing miracles, and meeting people’s needs, Jesus didn’t allow anything to get in the way of his prayer times.
Though busy men often complain of burnout, Jesus never did. He kept up an amazingly packed schedule without losing his focus or his energy. How did he manage it? The Gospels reveal that he was energized and empowered through regular times spent with his Father.
If Jesus, the Son of God and the only perfect man who ever lived, made a priority of spending time alone with his Father, how much more should we spend time daily with the One who empowers us to do everything on our plates?
Busy schedules and multiple commitments can make us suppose that we don’t have time for spiritual activities such as prayer. Jesus’ example teaches us otherwise. It proclaims that time alone with our heavenly Father gives us the energy and power we need to accomplish whatever lands on our “to do” lists.
Jesus considered regular prayer vital to his personal well-being and effectiveness in ministry. How much time are you spending with your heavenly Power Source?
