Blown By The Wind

Read: John 3:3-8

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit. John 3:8 NIV

IN WORD

Things blown by the wind—leaves, tumbleweeds, plastic bags—move in a general direction but take unexpected twists and turns. We don’t really analyze their movements; we just recognize that the wind is behind them. That’s how Kingdom citizens are meant to appear to the rest of the world. Why? Because we’re in tune with God’s voice. The Spirit speaks. And He directs us in ways that don’t make sense to natural eyes.

That means we might give away resources while others are hoarding them. We might buy when others are selling or sell when others are buying. We might move to dangerous places rather than take refuge in safe places because our sense of mission demands it. We may befriend people who don’t enhance our standing, live beneath our means rather than above them, or reason in ways that don’t make sense from a human-centered point of view. We are blown by a source of wisdom, power, and love that sees everything from an eternal perspective. We are designed to move contrary to natural logic but perfectly in sync with the Spirit within us.

That’s the Kingdom lifestyle. It looks odd to others, and that’s okay. Nowhere in Scripture are we told to blend in to our surroundings and look “normal.” No, if we’re fueled by a supernatural Spirit, we will live a supernatural lifestyle.

IN DEED

Living naturally may seem easier than living supernaturally, but it’s far less rewarding. Choose to be blown by the breath of God, not guided by your own wisdom or fueled by your own strength. All the resources of another realm are available to you if you ask and tune in to what God is doing in your life. You are not bound by every human limitation; you are given resources to transcend many of them. Ask for God’s wisdom, His strength, His open doors, and receive everything He offers.
