Hearing His Voice #326
Hearing His Voice #326
The human spirit is the lamp of the LORD.
Proverbs 20:27, NIV
“God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5, NKJV). That’s what the apostle John writes in one of his letters. But centuries earlier, a proverb identified a key medium that makes God’s light visible. The human spirit is the place where God intends for His light to shine. He created us for glory.
That’s one of the reasons God made us in His image. We were designed to reflect who He is. But in order to do that, we have to connect with Him, live in relationship with Him, and communicate with Him. Every aspect of our being, even our physical senses, was designed to be a contact point between us and Him. We perceive God through the power of His Word, the life of His Spirit, and the experiences we have in the context of our relationship with Him. As A. W. Tozer writes, “God desires and is pleased to communicate with us through the avenues of our minds, our wills, and our emotions.” We can receive His truth in every part of us.
Then what? We are to reflect the Lord. He is the light; we are the lamps that draw their light from Him and display it to the world. We are flames of His fire, pictures of His glory, reflections of His nature. He has given us a standing invitation and every opportunity to be living, breathing expressions of the Godhead. That’s why we were made.
Don’t squander that opportunity. You may not think yourself worthy, but that isn’t the issue. God has crafted you for a purpose, and He will shine through you whether you think yourself worthy or not. Remain in vital connection with His voice and His presence, and your role as a lamp will be fulfilled, even without your awareness. Your spirit is where God chooses to shine.
Lord, shine Your light on me, in me, and through me. Let me be an accurate reflection of Your glory. Speak to my spirit and light the fire within. May I glow with Your presence everywhere I go.
