Experiencing God's Presence #47

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Psalm 139:13

Think about the care and concern that went into the intricacies of your design. Your organs were crafted cell by cell; your hair color was written into your DNA; your facial features, your size, and your personality tendencies were slowly and carefully woven together by an unseen hand. Even the features you wish you could change are somehow part of His purposes. You were not a random growth of cells. The cells were guided and governed by an amazingly intelligent Being.

Even so, a lot of people think God prefers to remain aloof from the human beings He spent so much effort to design. They emphasize that He is high and holy and we aren’t, and therefore we must respect the gap between us and Him. Though it’s true that He is high and holy, and that we would fall on our faces in terror if He showed us too much of Himself, He desires a close and tender relationship with us. His purpose in creation was not to surround Himself with subjects; it was to share Himself with kindred hearts. And He has done everything He can to make it possible for our hearts to connect with Him.

Spend some time thinking about every piece of intelligence and care that went into designing you and all of your attributes. Consider what purpose must have motivated such a designer. Ask yourself why a Creator would develop such intricacies and plan such capacities in His creatures that they would be able to feel deep emotions, think inspired thoughts, and ponder profound mysteries. Is it simply to follow commands? No, it’s to experience God Himself. Never lose sight of this purpose. It’s why you were “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14, NIV).

Father, You have made me for Yourself. I want You to enjoy me, and I want to find my fulfillment in You. Please draw me closer so I can experience You in the depths of my being.
