Experiencing God's Presence #298

From the day Joseph was put in charge of his master’s household and property, the LORD began to bless Potiphar’s household for Joseph’s sake.

Genesis 39:5

Joseph was put to work in a difficult situation. This heir of God-given dreams and destiny had been sold into slavery and forced to manage the household of an Egyptian official. But God’s favor—His blessing, support, and even Presence—seemed to be on Joseph, and he became a blessing, a supporter, and a carrier of God’s Presence to others. In Potiphar’s household, in prison, and then in all of Egypt, he kept rising to the top of his situation.

That happens when we bring God’s Presence into our work situation. Our job and economic relationships are one of the vital sectors of society we’re called to impact. We enter the workforce as employers, employees, or even just as participants and consumers, and God gives us favor there when we function in His Spirit. That doesn’t mean we all rise to the top positions—that is, the “top” as the world perceives status—but we do all have spiritual authority and influence in the workplace. In fact, if we work among unbelievers, we’re spiritually the highest-ranking people there. In the Kingdom, that’s a significant influence.

Know who you are in the Spirit. Just as you have influence in your family and church, you carry the Presence of God into every area of life, including your occupation. You can ask God for solutions to difficult problems, serve a priestly function to those who don’t know Him, sense God’s heart for them and express it, and affect the environment with your words and attitudes. There’s more to taking God’s Presence into the world than overtly witnessing, on one hand, and quietly being salt and light, on the other. Demonstrate His character, feelings, and ways. Be the visible Presence of the invisible God.

Lord, help me be a Joseph—a person anointed by You to serve others well, to bless them, and to demonstrate Your ways. Give me Your favor and put me in a position of great spiritual influence.
