Love In Action
Love in Action
Read John 14:15-21
If you love me, obey my commandments. John 14:15
While in college I read Chuck Colson’s book Loving God. What I took away from that experience is that loving God is an action. Love is a verb.
When you look at the numerous passages that describe loving God, it’s easy to see how Colson came to this conclusion:
- You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. (Deuteronomy 6:5)
- I have commanded you today to love the Lord your God and to keep his commands, laws, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and become a great nation, and the Lord your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy. (30:16)
- Choose to love the Lord your God and to obey him and commit yourself to him, for he is your life. (v. 20)
I don’t want to just think about God—I want to obey his commandments. By following his commandments as the guide of my life, I live out his love. This is love, the verb, doing what he calls me to do.
Ready, set, action!
