It’s True!

All your words are true; all your just laws will stand forever. Psalm 119:160

In recent years there has been an attack on the Bible. One group even gathered together and used colored beads to vote on whether the words of Jesus were actually the words of Jesus. Different colors meant different votes like yes, probably, maybe, and no!

While we need to have relevant and accurate evidence for our faith, when we don’t act on the information already given to us, it actually erodes our faith. For example, some schools of thought say that God’s Word is truth only as it has meaning for me. This can be dangerous thinking because it becomes easy to ignore whole sections of Scripture. Even worse, you don’t want them to have meaning because you don’t want to obey them.

God’s Word is inerrant. “Inerrancy means that when all the facts are known, the Scriptures in their original autographs, properly interpreted, will be shown to be wholly true in everything they affirm whether it has to do with doctrine or morality or with social, physical or life sciences.”^a

Josh McDowell, in The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict, says:

The Bible is the Word of God . . . and God cannot err (Hebrews 6:18, Titus 1:12). To deny the inerrancy of Scripture is to impugn either the integrity of God or the identity of the Bible as God’s Word.

The Character of God demands inerrancy. If every utterance in the Bible is from God and God is truth, as the Bible declares Him to be, then the Bible must be wholly truthful, or inerrant. Jesus said of God’s utterances, “Your Word is truth” (John 17:17). The Psalmist wrote, “The entirety of Your Word is truth” (Psalm 119:160). . . . Paul wrote to Titus, “God . . . cannot lie” (Titus 1:2). In the final analysis, then, an attack on the Bible is an attack on the character of God.^b

How are you acting toward that true book, the Bible? Does it have the final authority in your life? It says it does.
