Truth

Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me. If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.”

What comes to mind when you think of the word false? True/False sections on a test? A false alarm? Anything that is false is contrary to truth or fact. All the way through the Bible we learn that God is truth, Jesus is truth, and the Spirit is truth.

Warren Wiersbe writes, “A willingness to obey is the secret of learning God’s truth.” Jesus certainly exhibited that, and it is borne out in the life of the Christian as well. Too many times we do the opposite: We spend great amounts of time trying to understand and prove God’s truth before we take the risk of believing and obeying. But as Jesus taught in John 11:40, “Didn’t I tell you that you will see God’s glory if you believe?”

Jesus wasn’t asking for mindless commitment with no basis in reality, like some cults do. Rather, he was teaching that once we have seen him and have been given glimpses of his truth, we desire to respond to his will. That’s the way to grow in truth.

May we strive to be women of truth who follow God’s ways, not false women who are out to promote themselves or their own agenda. Each time we obey God, we grow in truth.

Father,

Please help us to respond to the truth you reveal. May we become women of truth as a result of being women who obey. Amen.
