Listening
Listening
The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.
1 Peter 3:12
When I meet famous people, I’m not so amazed that they would say something to me, but I am amazed when they listen to me. How much more comforting to know that the God who created the world and died for me also listens to me! God is not like a corporate executive who cloisters himself in a faraway office, not wishing to be involved in his employees’ lives. The Bible teaches that he hears and listens to us. Astounding! If you are presently wondering if God is listening, be encouraged by these verses:
I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. You save with your strength those who seek refuge from their enemies. Guard me as the apple of your eye. Hide me in the shadow of your wings. (Psalm 17:6-8)
I cried out to the Lord in my suffering, and he heard me. He set me free from all my fears. (Psalm 34:6)
Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me. For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, my Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. (Psalm 66:16-19)
Father,
Thank you so much that you listen and that you never sleep. May we assure our children that you listen to them. Amen.
