Strategic Warnings

Don’t be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. John 14:1

It is hard to find anyone in history who had more passion or abandon in his dedication to the Savior than Peter. He was the first to speak, he was the only one to get out of the boat when Jesus walked on water, and he honestly believed he would give his life for Jesus if necessary. There was no way he could have predicted what he would say and do when confronted by a lowly servant. It was impossible for Peter to conceive of the possibility that he would deny knowing Jesus, not just once, but three times.

But Jesus knew. He knew that Peter loved him as much or more than anyone else loved him. He knew that Peter’s curiosity would draw him close to the trial. He knew that Peter would rashly deny knowing him. He knew that Peter’s heart would break when he realized what he had done. So he told Peter and the other disciples, “Don’t be troubled.”

I recently received information that a very good friend of mine has been diagnosed with cancer. He is a godly man with an important ministry. His health challenges now make it impossible for him to have the active ministry he has had in the past. I find it very interesting that God has been systematically simplifying his life over the last three years. My friend didn’t understand why his opportunities were being limited until the doctor told him he was going to have be focused on his recovery. Suddenly, the new lifestyle made sense.

You may have to face some dark moments in your life. That doesn’t mean, however, that you should be looking over your shoulder, waiting for the darkness to fall. Jesus will faithfully prepare you for what is next.

Lord of heaven, give me ears to hear your warnings as well as your words of comfort.
