Bound Together In Christ’s Love
Bound Together in Christ’s Love
Read Colossians 2:1-12
My goal is that they will be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have full confidence because they have complete under-standing of God’s secret plan, which is Christ himself. Colossians 2:2
It was the darkest day of my life. My youngest son, Caleb, then a kindergartener, asked if he could play at his friend’s house until his brothers were out. I agreed.
An hour later I got a call from the friend’s mom. “I don’t know where the kids are. I looked for them, but I can’t find them.”
I jumped in my car and drove to the friend’s house as fast as I could. When I got there, we called the police, and the search was on. Soon there were two helicopters in the air, circling the neighborhood and broadcasting the boys’ names over loudspeakers. Eleven sheriff’s deputies were driving the streets, calling out the boys’ names. During the five hours of searching, almost one thousand people got involved in the search.
After the fourth hour, when the sun was starting to go down and I had looked everywhere I could think to look, I dropped to my knees in a vacant field and prayed, God, you know I can’t find him, but you know where Caleb is. Please bring him home safely. And no matter what happens, I will praise you.
At the end of the fifth hour, we got word that the two boys were found. They had disappeared into a storm drain, where they were on a “great adventure.” Because they were below ground, they hadn’t heard any of the commotion. When we asked them what made them come up, they said, “We got hungry.”
When the boys came to the surface, someone recognized them and had them wait while the sheriff came to get them. I will forever be grateful for the team of people that responded in our time of need.
Lord, thank you for making me part of a team of caring believers.
