A Piece Of Heaven On Earth

Jesus answered, “I am not an earthly king. If I were, my followers would have fought when I was arrested by the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.” John 18:36

When you come to know Christ as your personal Savior, you are given a sort of dual citizenship. You are still a member of the community of people on earth, and you have responsibilities to that community. But you have also received citizenship in heaven. Your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (see Revelation 3:5), and you have all the rights and privileges of eternal citizenship in heaven.

While you are still living on earth, you are an ambassador for Christ to the world around you, and there are heavenly embassies for you to take refuge in. Each church that teaches the truth of God’s Word and offers fellowship for believers is like a little piece of heaven on earth.

When American citizens need help while they are in a foreign country, they go to an embassy. This is because an embassy is actually a part of America on foreign soil. Inside the embassy there are pictures of U.S. presidents on the walls. An American flag is prominently displayed. The people speak English and are familiar with American customs and policies. They celebrate the same holidays and live under the same laws as people who live in the fifty states. For this reason, an American citizen in a foreign land can find refuge and get the help they need because, for a brief period of time, they experience a little bit of home.

Do you want to see a little spot of heaven on earth? You can find it in fellowship with other believers, and you can find that fellowship in churches that teach and preach the Word of God.

Jesus, thank you for my citizenship in heaven, and thank you that I can find a piece of heaven here on earth.
