Now That Tastes Good!
Now That Tastes Good!
Taste and see that the LORD is good.Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
Psalm 34:8
On two different occasions, my husband and I visited Houston to see my granddaughter, Kelena. On each visit, we took her to church with us. It was a little hard for Kelena to wake up that first Sunday—waking up early on Sundays was not a part of her routine. At any rate, by the time we arrived at church, she was fine. Kelena enjoyed the singing and worshiping, and she excitedly clapped her little hands, mimicking Greg and me.
It was a Communion Sunday, and as the baskets were being passed around, she asked, “Maw-maw, what is that in those baskets?”
“Honey, that is Communion.”
With a puzzled look on her face, she asked, “What’s a Communion? Can I have one when the basket comes by?”
I told her no, thinking, If her mom and dad went to church, this child would not be puzzled about Communion. Okay, Lord, how do I explain this one?
“Kelena, Jesus died for the sins of mankind, and that included you, me, and anyone who accepts Jesus and his dying for us. To share in his dying for us, we drink the juice and eat the wafer symbolizing our being one with him in body.” I was hoping she was able to understand a little.
On our way home from church, Kelena asked us to call her parents so she could talk with them. She was excited to tell her mommy about her day in church. “I was singing and clapping with Maw-maw and Paw-paw.”
The next words out of her mouth would have found me proverbially spitting out anything in my mouth had there been something there. “Mommy, guess what happened today in church? Maw-maw and Paw-paw ate God.”
All I could do was look at her and smile.

Dear God, help me to remember that whatever I do is a reflection of you. Let the sweetness of your Word be like honey in my mouth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
