You Have Been Approved

Read Proverbs 8

Whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD.

Proverbs 8:35

Confusing and incomprehensible as the Bible sometimes seems, one simple message is woven through its pages—the message of life. In Genesis, we read that God created the world and that he created people in his own image to walk with and worship him. But they sinned, and at that very moment, they died spiritually. They broke their relationship with God and were forever separated from him. Physical death soon followed. God could have turned his back on his creation to let it self-destruct. But the glorious message of the Bible is that he didn’t—because he loved us too much. That is why the Bible doesn’t end after the first few chapters of Genesis. It goes on to record the history of God’s relationship with men and women and his offering us a restored relationship with him.

Today’s proverb speaks of this restored relationship by saying that whoever finds God’s wisdom finds life and the Lord’s favor. How do we find that wisdom? God’s wisdom is found in a person—Jesus Christ, who is “the wonderful wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24). In Christ, we have God’s wisdom. In him, we have life!
