Witness Stand

Witness Stand

Read Proverbs 12

An honest witness tells the truth; a false witness tells lies.

Proverbs 12:17

Just about every courtroom drama revolves around someone not telling the truth. The judge and jury have to figure out who is being honest and who is not. As Christians living in the world, no one should ever have to call our truthfulness into question. With the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, there is no reason why we cannot tell the truth. Yet we continually slip up, and little untruths quickly become big lies.

Part of the problem lies in our perspective. In any given situation in our day-to-day routine, it can be very easy to come up with a good reason for not telling the whole truth. But this proverb calls our attention to a larger purpose, a bigger calling. We are all witnesses for Christ and his love. We are living, breathing examples of the work he did for us on the Cross. Our witness to the world should be honest and true, for if our truthfulness is called into question on small things, how can we expect people to believe us about the massively important truths of salvation and forgiveness?

A WORD FOR TODAY

Stand on truth.

Today, Lord, give me the courage to stand firm for you. Help me to be an honest witness, proclaiming your truth to the world in all that I do.
