Wise Detergent
Wise Detergent
Read Proverbs 30
Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life.
Revelation 22:14
One of the most popular and least expensive forms of advertising is the practice of announcing that a product is “new and improved!” Detergents promise to clean cleaner, brighten brighter, and whiten whiter. The enthusiasm of the claims is rarely proven by the results in the laundry.
How appropriate to bring the year to a close with this last blessing from Scripture! The washing to which this proverb refers cannot be improved, and it is ever new. It is described more specifically in Revelation 7:14: “Then he said to me, ‘These are the ones who died in the great tribulation. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white.’ ” Jesus is God’s detergent, the only one capable of washing us clean from our sin. Jesus used three single-word titles to describe how he provides a spiritual cleansing to our lives. “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6). The Way, Truth, Life—now there is a detergent that can wash you whiter than snow!
