Wisdom’s Appraisal

Wisdom’s Appraisal

Read Proverbs 3

Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying.

Proverbs 3:15-17

“Wisdom” has come to mean many things in today’s society, but here it refers specifically to God’s wisdom. When we seek wisdom and understanding from God, we are consciously making a decision to reject the ways of the world and to desire what the world cannot appreciate.

God’s ways are higher than our ways. God created this world and everything in it. He alone knows what is best for us. Seeking wisdom is seeking communion with God. It means laying aside what we think is the best way of doing things and finding through the Bible how the Lord would have us live instead.

The promises in the proverb describe a satisfying life, a life without regrets. Wise living may not always be easy living, but the paths are delightful along the way. The truly wise seek to know God, who desires to be known. Nothing compares with the joy of knowing him (Philippians 3:7-8).
