What God Hates
What God Hates
Read Proverbs 6
There are six things the LORD hates—no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.
Proverbs 6:16-19
Hate is a strong word. In fact, it almost seems out of character for God to hate. Isn’t he supposed to be a God of love? We might use the word hate lightly when we speak, but the thought of God’s hatred conveys a very frightening concept. This view of God helps us think more seriously about his response to our actions.
Notice the things that God hates––pride, dishonesty, and impurity. Interestingly, each phrase connects these sins with a part of the body. Now, our physical bodies are not bad in themselves. God created us in his image to perform great acts. Our bodies are his masterpiece. Yet, the greatest gifts of a human can become the most evil when they are twisted for evil purposes.
Each day you have an opportunity to use your body for good deeds or for wickedness. Choose today to honor God with your body. Avoid corrupting yourself with the things God hates.
A WORD FOR TODAY
Imitate God’s hatred.
Lord, I am fearfully and wonderfully made! Help me to use each part of my body to uplift others.
