Tuning In To God

Read Proverbs 23

Commit yourself to instruction; listen carefully to words of knowledge.

Proverbs 23:12

Have you ever used walkie-talkies to communicate with friends? If you have, then you know that both people have to tune in to the same frequency, otherwise they can’t hear each other. This is a great picture of how communication works between God and us.

We must tune in if we want to hear God’s instructions. Listening to God becomes difficult if we’re too busy doing our own thing. So how can we tune in to God? First, the proverb tells us to commit ourselves to instruction. This could mean setting a spiritual goal and then relying on God to help us accomplish that goal.

Once we’ve made a commitment, then it’s time to listen carefully. This means focusing our lives on hearing God’s instruction. Our continued attention to the book of Proverbs will accomplish a significant amount of careful listening in our lives.
