True Strength

True Strength

Read Proverbs 24

The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge grow stronger and stronger.

Proverbs 24:5

Muscular strength usually comes to mind when we hear words like power and might. Through self-discipline, this kind of strength may be achieved, but it has real limits. Although physical exercise is a good habit, the proverb stresses the importance of exercising the mind. Building our bodies provides us with endurance in a battle or competition. Nevertheless, neglecting strategy only allows an opponent with more cunning to defeat us.

The verse following this proverb aptly refers to victory during war. As Christians, we are warriors in an ongoing spiritual war. If we think we are strong enough alone, without the guidance of others, we will surely falter. By gaining God’s wisdom and direction, we will be able to overcome challenges that appear too great for us.
