Timely Relief
Read Proverbs 12
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
Proverbs 12:25
Proverbs’ consistent message revolves around recognizing the power of our words. For example, encouragement can make a difference in the lives of those around us. Oftentimes, we meet needy people consumed with troubles. We feel we can do nothing to lift their burdens—we may say a prayer, if that, and go on our way. However, Scripture exhorts us to a ministry of encouragement.
Our words of hope and support may be the very balm a worrier needs to get through a particular problem. From strangers on the street, to store clerks, to good friends and family members, encouragement should be the theme of all our conversation and interaction. Compliment strangers. Find something good to say. When you notice trainees in a store, affirm them. If a friend is struggling, offer your prayers. There is enough worry weighing down the world for everyone to have a share. Believers can make it their mission to make sure encouragement is as equally abundant.
A WORD FOR TODAY
Worry is an unnecessary weight.
Today, Lord, help me be sensitive to what I say. Let my words be encouraging to those around me.
