Read Proverbs 13
Trouble chases sinners, while blessings reward the righteous.
Proverbs 13:21
Laughter helps learning. Studies show that motivational speakers who use humor in their presentations have a more attentive audience. Accordingly, Proverbs often uses humor in its teachings. Here, we see an exaggerated portrayal of how God uses persistency to make his point. “Trouble” is like a guard dog, nipping at the heels of the sinful. However, blessing is a faithful companion who follows after the godly.
God overwhelms the righteous with his favor—so much so that it appears as if they can’t get away from his goodness even if they tried! Blessings and curses are God’s means for teaching us lessons. Curses pursue those who are sinful—they can’t get away with their crimes. However, blessings are always on the heels of the righteous person. So, if we are having a hard time discerning the wicked from the righteous, look around. Is a person constantly surrounded by troubles? Or hardly able to keep up with the outpouring of God’s blessings?
A WORD FOR TODAY
Laugh in the face of trouble.
Today, Lord, I am grateful that your blessings are my faithful companion. Thank you for all you have done for me.
