The Widest Invitation
The Widest Invitation
Read Proverbs 9
She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city.
Proverbs 9:3
Wisdom does not hold exclusive parties. She is not seeking only the brightest, the best looking, or the most likely to succeed. She does not keep anyone who desires to come from taking part in her festivities. In other words, wisdom is available to anyone who asks for it!
In this picture of wisdom as a woman inviting people to her spacious home, we see a picture of the grace of our great and loving God. In the Garden of Eden, Eve thought that eating the fruit would make her wise (Genesis 3:6). She thought that God was keeping something from her, and so she disobeyed. She failed to realize that God had given her all that she needed to know. So she and Adam turned their backs on wisdom and welcomed the ultimate foolishness of sin. Although we all now exist under the curse of sin, God seeks to give us the wisdom that we need in order to have a relationship with him. What grace! Wisdom is calling. Have we answered?
