The Ultimate Feast

Read Proverbs 15

A bowl of vegetables with someone you love is better than steak with someone you hate.

Proverbs 15:17

We all long for intimate fellowship with people who care about us enough to speak the truth and love us enough to endure our weaknesses. The book of Proverbs is filled with definitions of true friends. A favorite of many is Proverbs 17:17: “A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.”

When we are with true friends, we don’t worry about every little thing we say, we don’t try to make awkward conversation during times of silence, and we don’t bother composing an appealing facade. We are free to be who we are. It is in that atmosphere of love and acceptance that true fellowship is found. What’s on the menu isn’t nearly as important as who is sharing the meal with us. We should always strive to be a “bowl of vegetables” friend to those around us.

A WORD FOR TODAY

Companionship transforms cooking.

Today, Lord, help me to be a friend to those around me. Teach me to value them above earthly pleasures.
