The Right Leader

The Right Leader

Read Proverbs 2

Follow the steps of good men instead, and stay on the paths of the righteous. For only the godly will live in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it.

Proverbs 2:20-21

“Follow the leader” is perhaps one of the more popular playground pastimes in childhood. The phrase has the power to spontaneously motivate children to line up in succession behind their lead adventurer, anxious to follow one child’s whims across the playground. Up the slide. Down the slide. Across the monkey bars. And around the basketball goal. The display of trust is enormous. The crowd unquestioningly follows the path’s surprising twists and turns, finding joy in the journey. Fortunately, good leaders can be trusted to avoid pitfalls and lead the group in safe passage.

In the same way, we must follow the example of godly men and women—our lead adventurers in life. The mere mention of this proverb should call to mind the image of trusting children who are committed to following the one in front. If we stay on the path of the righteous, we will experience the adventure of faith walking. We may not know for ourselves what lies ahead, but we simply trust in the footsteps of the godly one who goes before us.

A WORD FOR TODAY

Follow the right leader.

Today, Lord, I thank you for those who live a godly life for me to follow. Help me see the path of righteousness and stay on it.
