Read Proverbs 3

The LORD curses the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.

Proverbs 3:33

A well-manicured lawn is not necessarily the sign of a blessed home. Nor does a godly residence imply faultless inhabitants. Both Christian and godless homes can be prone to problems. In truth, the homes of the upright are not perfect—only perfectly blessed.

The blessing referred to by this proverb comes in the form of God’s presence and power. A godly home can experience tragedy and yet endure in spite of it. A godly home can have a rebellious child. The home of the upright can be cramped, yet still be full of love. All this is due to God’s presence and power within that imperfect home. However, what hope is there for a family apart from God’s blessing? That family can experience only God’s curse—the very opposite of his blessing. The house of the wicked is simply that—a house. God’s blessing transforms a house into a home.

A WORD FOR TODAY

God blesses a godly home.

Today, Lord, I am thankful for your blessings, your presence, and your power in my life.
