The Best Defense

Read Proverbs 30

Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.

Proverbs 30:5

The truth of God’s Word usually becomes painfully obvious as soon as we cease to follow it. When our plans crumble, we realize that God’s Word does, in fact, show us the good way. In this aspect, our very lives prove the truth of God’s Word.

But what about telling others about God’s truth? Confrontation and debate still spark fear in the minds of many believers. We fear that we will be trapped if we step up to defend our faith in God. Ironically, the proverb reveals that it is God who defends us. He is our shield of protection.

If every word of God is true, he has said some pretty amazing things. For instance, Jesus said, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” When we are faced with disbelief and cynicism, God remains with us to give us the right words and the courage to speak them.

A WORD FOR TODAY

God doesn’t need our defense; we need his.

Today, Lord, help me to rely on you as my Shield and Defender.
