Read Proverbs 10

When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.

Proverbs 10:25

Storm trackers are usually the first to sight storm activity. However, even with their advanced equipment to measure air pressure and wind, they can provide no more than a few minutes’ warning for those in a storm’s path to seek shelter. In the same way, stormy trials can drop in unexpectedly in all of our lives.

The distinction in this proverb is not who goes through a storm—the wicked or the godly. Both are thrust into the middle of the storm. However, the dramatic difference is the outcome. Everything the wicked owns and even the wicked themselves are whirled away in the storm’s fury. However, the godly withstand the trial. The difference is in their foundation.

The image in this proverb is similar to a commonly televised aerial shot panned early the next morning after a destructive storm. Some houses remain unscathed, while the homes of next-door neighbors have hardly a stacked brick remaining. The godly will survive life’s storms because of their Christ-centered foundation.
