Stewardship
Read Proverbs 10
The earnings of the godly enhance their lives, but evil people squander their money on sin.
Proverbs 10:16
It seems pretty obvious to most Christians that we should not “squander” our money on sinful activities. But at the same time, we sometimes try to “get around” this proverb by altering God’s definition of sin to fit our current situation. For example, we may feel good about not spending money at a certain store or subscribing to a particular magazine. However, we might then go and pour more money than is perhaps wise into our house or car.
When we stop to realize that it is all God’s money, there is a shift in perspective. Turning to God for advice and guidance on what we spend and where can only enhance our lives. We are enriched not through the things we purchase but in the direction we are led to use our funds for the glory of God’s kingdom. When we choose to spend our earnings without consultation or guidance from God, we often squander the financial opportunities that God has presented to us.
A WORD FOR TODAY
Stewardship satisfies.
Today, Lord, help me use your blessings to enhance my life and others in accordance with your will. Help me to avoid the pitfalls of my sinful heart and to focus on serving you in everything that I do.
