Read Proverbs 6

The man who commits adultery is an utter fool, for he destroys himself.

Proverbs 6:32

If we are to believe the cultural message of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, sexual acts of any kind are simply alternative lifestyles. Current logic also says that the Old Testament is not applicable to modern living, so this advice in Proverbs can be safely ignored. Further, according to this logic, even Jesus said in his Sermon on the Mount, “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged” (Matthew 7:1). So does all this mean that we must accept these “alternatives” without condemnation because all choices are equally moral? Viewed through the eyes of political correctness, it does. But this line of thinking is just one more example of man’s attempts to rationalize behavior that God clearly condemns.

Today’s proverb says that the adulterous man is “an utter fool.” According to the descriptions in Proverbs, a fool is not someone who lacks intellectual ability, but one who chooses to rationalize wrong behavior. The fool casts off the fear of God, thinking and acting as if he or she could safely disregard God’s righteousness. Remember this: God’s principles are eternal. They are never out of date.

Adultery is self-destructive.

Today, Lord, may I be truly sensitive to your urgings, and not so foolish that I ignore you. Help me to see my sin as sin and not to rationalize it.
