Reproof For Life
Reproof For Life
Read Proverbs 6
Their [parents’] command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.
Proverbs 6:23
We don’t like to be told that we are wrong. It is an affront to our pride. And so, in our self-assuredness, we often push ahead with our own plans, presuming that we know better than God. It’s the same lie that Adam and Eve bought into in the Garden. Satan said, “You won’t die!” (Genesis 3:4), and they believed him instead of God, turning their backs on the Father.
The proverbs tell us over and over again that it is the fool who spurns correction. An honest look at our own lives and hearts will show us that God is infinitely better equipped to be Lord of our lives. Therefore, let us humble ourselves and seek his direction. Then, when we fail and need correction, we will have another opportunity to demonstrate that we do trust him to straighten us out.
A WORD FOR TODAY
God’s Word lights the way.
Today, Lord, teach me the way of life. Soften my heart to yield to your truth and to rejoice in the beauty of your commands.
