Marital Bliss

Read Proverbs 5

Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.

Proverbs 5:18

When God created people in the Garden of Eden, he created us male and female. In his wisdom, our Father created two distinct sexes that would each represent his glory throughout his creation. But he didn’t stop there. God ordained that the two would become one flesh, and so present a picture of Jesus and his church (Ephesians 5:22-32), united by love. We need look only briefly at the world around us to see how that image has been attacked and distorted.

The proverb, meant for a son, highlights the effects and blessings of a healthy marriage. The “let” indicates how important it is for marriage partners to allow or expect each other to be a benefit in their lives. When we “rejoice” in our spouse, we allow him or her to know the significant and wonderful difference he or she is making in our lives.

May we recommit ourselves to loving and serving each other and to showing forth the love of God through our families.

A WORD FOR TODAY

Marriage is for life.

Today, Lord, teach me to better love and serve my family and to rejoice in the blessings that you have given me.
