On Your Side
On Your Side
Read Proverbs 22
The LORD preserves those with knowledge, but he ruins the plans of the treacherous.
Proverbs 22:12
After reading this verse, it’s obvious which side God favors. He is not afraid to be partial; he “preserves” those who act wisely and frustrates those who are “treacherous.”
What spills over from this proverb is a reminder that God is omniscient, able to read the mind of every person. He knows what people will do before they do it. He can intervene where necessary and allow what he chooses. Knowing this, Christians would be smart to stick to a clean course. If we act in a deceitful, dishonest manner, we should expect God to thwart our plans. It is as if the proverb is warning us, “Don’t bother with your evil ways. He is sure to catch you.”
But while the proverb warns what will happen if we err, it also promises what will happen if we obey. What a wonderful promise! If we strive for wisdom, God will shield us. This promise, coming from the almighty God, should make our choice obvious as well.
A WORD FOR TODAY
God is involved.
Today, Lord, I praise you that you are omniscient. You know all my thoughts and longings. Thank you for caring enough to listen.
