A Joyful Smile
A Joyful Smile
Read Proverbs 23
Give your father and mother joy! May she who gave you birth be happy.
Proverbs 23:25
A drawing on the refrigerator door, a picture inside a wallet, a graduation announcement—these are symbols of precious memories. Children bring joy to their parents throughout childhood. This proverb reinforces that natural affection parents feel for their children. It also encourages children, regardless of their ages, to act in ways that make their parents happy.
They bring a smile to God’s face, too. God is pleased when Christians nurture positive family relationships. That means putting other people before ourselves. It means holding on to God’s Word during tough times.
So, how do we please our parents? By finding out what God’s Word says and following it. Out of respect to our parents and reverence to God, we accept the commandments and open ourselves up to receive the rewards. Obeying God is not only in our own best interest. It benefits our parents, too.
A WORD FOR TODAY
Consider blessing your parents.
Today, Lord, I will make the extra effort to live the way you want me to. I want to please you, my heavenly Father.
