Listen And Learn
Listen And Learn
Read Proverbs 5
Oh, why didn’t I listen to my teachers? Why didn’t I pay attention to my instructors?
Proverbs 5:13
How many teachers have read this verse with great satisfaction? They knew that the knowledge they were imparting to their students was essential to their lives, but how many students simply didn’t care? And how many of those same students, faced with difficult challenges that demanded those lessons or skills later in life, would then lament, “Oh, why didn’t I listen to my teachers?”
The context of this verse is specifically the teaching about immorality. The student (the son) who does not listen will find himself facing utter ruin. He will then lament that he should have heeded the instruction of his teacher (his father) who had been exactly right about the perils of immorality.
In any situation, we would be wise to listen and learn from our teachers. And as teachers, especially of our own children, we would be wise to help them to understand the ultimate value of the lessons we try to impart.
A WORD FOR TODAY
Regrets are late lessons.
Lord, help me to respectfully learn from those you have sent to teach me. Also, help me to teach those you have given me as students with enthusiasm and urgency so that they will understand the value of the lessons I give.
