Joy For The Golden Years
Joy For The Golden Years
Read Proverbs 16
Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life.
Proverbs 16:31
Imagine how well you could get to know God in a lifetime. Throughout life, the moments of crisis, joy, faith, and perseverance all provide opportunities to deepen our relationship with God. Gray hair, hopefully, is evidence of wisdom gained over the years. A long life is the reward for rejecting sinful instincts for godly wisdom.
A godly life involves making wise choices, which are usually the smarter, safer ones. This kind of life leads a person to naturally live longer than someone who isn’t making wise choices. The godly person may suffer the same temporal consequences for sin that the ungodly suffer, but a godly person has the hope of forgiveness and eternal life. The ungodly live with the weight of unforgiveness and the dread of eternal hopelessness.
Gray hair (a crown of glory) can be worn joyfully by those who are reflecting on a life’s walk with the Lord. Not only have these people spent their lives with God, they also anticipate uninterrupted fellowship with him in heaven.
A WORD FOR TODAY
Godliness brings quality to old age.
Today, Lord, I thank you for my life. Let me use it to serve you and get to know you better.
