Faithful Mirror
Faithful Mirror
Read Proverbs 16
People may be pure in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their motives.
Proverbs 16:2
People can justify anything. We human beings have an amazing capability to rationalize our actions and so remain “pure” in our own eyes. Many subscribe to the adage that “the end justifies the means,” and they will explain away all manner of wrong behavior if they think it will bring them to the desired “end.”
However, while we may be fooling everyone around us, we are not fooling God. He sees right through us, down to our basest desires and motivations. No matter how “pure” we may think we are, a God’s-eye view will quickly show us otherwise.
If we have felt God’s touch on our conscience regarding our motives in a particular situation, we need to ask forgiveness. Then we need to ask God to help us straighten out our thinking so that we are following his commands every step of the way. His Word provides a faithful mirror.
A WORD FOR TODAY
Be aware of God’s awareness.
Today, Lord, examine my motives and show me how to act in accordance with your will.
