Because He Loves
Because He Loves
Read Proverbs 3
My child, don’t reject the LORD’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you. For the LORD corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.
Proverbs 3:11-12
An undisciplined child is not a pretty sight. We have all seen a child who kicks and screams and behaves rudely. Children need discipline because their natural bent is toward sin and selfishness. Parents have to train their children to behave correctly. Sometimes this involves discipline, but that discipline is meant in love. Wise parents delight in their children and discipline them, knowing that such training will crown their children with grace and honor (1:9).
Like a loving earthly father, God also disciplines his children. Our natural bent, like all children, is toward sin and selfishness. Because God delights in us, he wants to teach us to live rightly for him. So when we feel the sting of God’s discipline on our lives, we must not ignore it or be discouraged. Like obedient children, we must learn the lesson God has for us. God disciplines those he loves; if we are being disciplined, we know we are loved.
A WORD FOR TODAY
God loves through discipline.
Lord, let me remember that your discipline in my life happens because you love me. Show me what you are trying to teach me.
